Spot Flamingos at Lake Grevelingen

Did you know..?

Did you know you don’t have to travel to a tropical country to see flamingos in the wild? At the Slikken van Battenoord, along the shores of Lake Grevelingen, a unique flamingo colony can be spotted every year. Especially during autumn and winter, dozens of pink birds colour the landscape. A truly magical sight right here in the Netherlands!

A Unique Nature Experience in the Netherlands

This peaceful area attracts several flamingo species, including Caribbean flamingos. In the shallow waters, they feed on small crustaceans and shellfish. The secret behind their beautiful pink colour. With a bit of luck, you can observe them from surprisingly close by.

Best Time to See the Flamingos

The flamingos are usually present from November through March. During these months they stay around the Grevelingen, before returning to Germany and beyond in spring.
